Third-Party Funding in Nigerian Arbitration and Beyond

This webinar jointly organized by Broderick Bozimo & Company, Delos Dispute Resolution and the Lagos Court of Arbitration on “Third-Party Funding in Nigerian Arbitration and Beyond”, took place on Wednesday 31 August. The speakers of the event were Dr. Adeyemi Agbelusi, Olga Boltenko and Dillip Massand. Their short bios are available below.

The event was held online, as well as in person in Lagos at the Lagos Court of Arbitration.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Adeyemi Agbelusi is the Principal Partner, Berean Associates. He is an Accredited Mediator and Independent Arbitrator with extensive numbers of disputes resolved in core areas of family, Banking, Real Estate, Construction, Corporate and Commercial matters as specialty. Dr Adeyemi Agbelusi has garnered valuable Dispute Resolution experience, He has been involved in a number of large complex commercial mediation and arbitration matters in Nigeria and Abroad and has advised on private international issues arising from cross-border transactions. He has done extensive work on training the Judiciary, Governments, Educational Institutions and Professional Bodies on the need for Conflict avoidance, management, and resolution. He has collaborated with several organizations to establish effective systems of risk management in dealing with conflict to prevent loss of harmony and build teams by facilitation of difficult conversations and change management. He is the African Regional Mediator, (West and Central Africa) World Bank Group. He serves on the Panel of Neutrals of the Asian International Arbitration Center, Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators, Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse, Federal High Court ADR Center, Lagos Court of Arbitration and Panels of Several Private domestic and International Institutions. He is a Member of the Standing Conference of Mediation Advocates and a trained Facilitator and Consultant. He is the Chairman YMG, Mentorship Committee and Chairman, Schemes Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK and facilitated the launch of the Micro, Small Enterprises Arbitration Scheme. He is also on the Approved Faculty List, Tutor and Assessor (Mediation, Domestic and International Arbitration) of  the CIArb UK. He has also serves on several other Committees of the CIArb. He is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Dispute Resolution Hub. He is an accredited trainer with IM Campus, Europe and Board Member of Mediate Guru International. He is the Chair, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Lagos Branch. He is a member of the ICC, International Court Of Arbitration ADR-Commission. He is also a CIArb and ICC trained Arbitral Secretary with expertise in Arbitration Case Management Techniques and drafting of enforceable Awards.

Olga Boltenko is an investment and trade lawyer with over ten years of experience in public international law and investor-State dispute resolution. She has acted as legal counsel in investor-state disputes under the auspices of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the ICSID, the SCC, the ICC, the LCIA, and as tribunal secretary in dozens of commercial disputes in a wide array of industries including oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, construction, telecommunications and pharmaceuticals, across Asia and beyond. Ms. Boltenko teaches a master of laws degree in arbitration and ADR with a focus on Belt & Road investment law at The University of Hong Kong. She is also a professor of law at the Royal University of Law and Economics in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where she teaches a course in investment law at the dual degree program with the Free University of Brussels. Ms. Boltenko is admitted to the roll of solicitors of the Hong Kong SAR, to the Bar Association of the Primorsky Region of the Russian Federation, and she is registered as a foreign lawyer with the Singapore International Commercial Court. Ms. Boltenko is listed as an arbitrator at the SIAC (reserve panel), AIAC, CIETAC, AFSA (Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa), and XAAC (Xi’An Arbitration Commission). Dilip Massand is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Advisors, Ltd., an Abu Dhabi based firm focused on Legal Finance, Knowledge Transfer, and Innovation in the Legal Industry across the globe.  Phoenix also offers dispute resolution and advisory services to clients seeking to navigate multijurisdictional issues and invest in regional distressed credit opportunities.  Mr. Massand has over 20 years of international experience working with Institutional Investors, Multinational Corporations, Banks, and Family Offices in the United States, the Middle East, and India. He holds a Juris Doctor in Comparative Constitutional Law from New York Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Boston University. He is a member of the International and New York State Bar Associations, ABANA (formerly the Arab Bankers Association of North America), a Charter Member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Dubai Chapter, and serves on New York Law School’s ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Skills Advisory Committee as well as the Global Advisory Committee of EFE (Education for Employment) – a non-profit organization that has created over 160,000 jobs for Arab youth over the past 10 years.
