Clean Energy and Arbitration
The Clean Energy and Arbitration event organised jointly by KLC Law Firm and Delos, took place on Wednesday 10 November 2021. It featured Adam Bryan (TotalEnergies), Patrick Hebreard (FTI Consulting), Tilman Niedermaier (CMS), Marily Paralika (Fieldfisher) and Alexandros Tsirigos (KLC Law Firm) (short bios below). The speakers provided an analytical view of what are ‘clean’ and ‘green’ energies, and what implications these emerging industries carry for the practice of international arbitration. ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS
Adam Bryan is a Senior Legal Counsel in the trading division of the TotalEnergies group, based in Switzerland. Previously, he worked for approximately ten years in international treaty and commercial arbitration in London (Cleary Gottlieb), Paris (Three Crowns), Hong Kong (Allen & Overy) and Geneva (LALIVE).
Patrick Hebreard is an experienced expert and adviser with over 18 years of experience in the energy industry. He has been appointed as testifying expert in many complex and high value arbitration proceedings in the energy sector, assisting major companies and leading law firms in various regions across the world, including Europe, Africa, Middle East and South America. Patrick acts as damages valuation expert as well as energy industry expert providing market analyses and opinions on industry practice. Patrick is recognized as Global Leader in the Who’s Who Legal Arbitration – Expert Witness, with clients saying: “Patrick is a true expert with first-hand industry experience” and “an excellent specialist of the energy sector who is a pleasure to work with”.
Tilman Niedermaier is a Partner in the dispute resolution department of CMS Germany in Munich. His practice focuses on complex transborder disputes. He regularly advises and represents clients on matters related to acquisitions, joint ventures and large-scale projects, including the renewable energy sector. He also sits as an arbitrator. Tilman’s experience as counsel and arbitrator extends to arbitrations under various institutional and ad hoc rules, including expedited and emergency arbitration rules.
Marily Paralika is a Partner of the International Arbitration Department of Fieldfisher Paris. She has 15 years’ experience in International Arbitration representing parties in the construction, engineering, energy and infrastructure sectors, both in commercial arbitrations and investor-state disputes, and assists with every step of the arbitral process, including pre-arbitral strategic advice. She has handled arbitrations arising out of international commercial contracts, including long-term gas supply agreements and concession contracts, but also matters arising out of M&A and shareholders’ agreements. She also acts as an arbitrator in international arbitration proceedings. Marily is a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration for Greece and a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. She is also on the Board of the Arbitration Committee of ICC Hellas and a member of the Board of Paris Arbitration Week.
Alexandros Tsirigos is a Partner at KLC Law Firm. He is a practicing lawyer with more than 12 years field experience in all sorts of business transactions and dispute resolution cases focusing on Energy, M&A transactions in various market sectors and major international commercial arbitration cases.
