FACILITATED DAMAGES MOOC
Do you want to learn or refresh on the basics of damages and valuation?
Are you looking for an advanced understanding of damages issues or valuation approaches facilitated by leading experts?
Would you like to test your understanding of these issues, and demonstrate your knowledge with a certificate?
If so, then our Facilitated Damages MOOC is for you, whether you are a seasoned practitioner or a budding junior, an experienced in-house counsel or a sophisticated arbitrator. Two courses are on offer: Introductory, and Advanced, co-chaired by Roula Harfouche and James Nicholson.
PROGRAMME OUTLINES AND CALENDARS
The Introductory level course will take place from February to April. Leading experts will guide participants in weekly sessions through the following topics of the Damages MOOC:
- Introduction to accounting, with Kroll
- Loss quantification & valuation, with Accuracy
- Cost-related approaches to valuation, with Forvis Mazars
- Introduction to the market approach to valuation, with Grant Thornton
- Introduction to the income approach to valuation, with Compass Lexecon
The Advanced level course will take place from May to July. Leading experts will guide participants in weekly sessions through the following topics of the Damages MOOC:
- Advanced income approach to valuation, with Osborne Partners
- Calculating the discount rate in the income approach to valuation, with Cornerstone Research
- Advanced market approach to valuation, with Deloitte
- Interest and exchange rates, with HKA
- Advanced loss quantification and valuation in IP disputes, with Oxera
- Use of econometrics and statistical analysis in damages assessments, with FTI Consulting
Each study week will take place in a separate week and involve a combination of structured self-study (including testing through multiple choice questions (MCQs)) and an interactive 1.5hr session with quantum experts to address questions, clarify concepts, and explain the MCQ responses.
At the end of each programme, participants will be invited to take a final test to earn a certificate, followed by a debrief session to address any outstanding questions and doubts.
PROGRAMME FEES
- Introductory course: membership sign-up (any, including free membership) and EUR 250 (excl. VAT)
- Advanced course: full membership sign-up and EUR 250 (excl. VAT)
- Combined package: full membership sign-up and EUR 450 (excl. VAT)
The capacity for each programme is limited to ensure that the sessions with the experts are as interactive and lively as possible.

About VAT: the TLC course is subject to the VAT rules applicable in the UK. The rate is 20%. This gets applied if you are (i) based in the UK or (ii) paying for the course yourself, in your individual capacity, wherever you may be – as opposed to doing so through or on behalf/as a member of a non-UK law firm or other business. If you are paying for the course through or on behalf/as a member of a non-UK law firm or non-UK business, we may ask you to provide us with the firm's/business's EU VAT number or, if the firm/business is outside of the EU, its registration number, or to demonstrate through other means that it is a law firm/business.
