Speak To Win: Styles, Strategies and Cultural Insights in Advocacy
We held a practical and interactive session on Tuesday 24 March jointly organised by the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC), Delos Dispute Resolution and Herbert Smith Freehills Kewei (FTZ) Joint Operation Office. This event was designed for arbitration practitioners, in‑house counsel, and dispute resolution professionals who want to sharpen their advocacy skills on the international stage.
Through a live mock hearing adapted from a real arbitral award, leading arbitration practitioners brought advocacy to life – demonstrating how persuasive narratives are built, how contracts and evidence are deployed, and how strategic and cultural considerations can shape outcomes before an arbitral tribunal.
The event also included an interactive panel discussion, featuring Simon Chapman KC (Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, Hong Kong), Yuet Min Foo (Drew & Napier, Singapore), Kathryn Sanger (Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, Hong Kong), and Ming Wu (Dacheng Law Offices, Shanghai) who offered behind‑the‑scenes insight into advocacy techniques, stylistic choices, and cross‑cultural dynamics in international arbitration. Weina Ye (Herbert Smith Freehills Kewei, Shanghai) moderated the panel discussion.
