Please meet the ROAP Asia Co-Chairs, Faculty and Convenors, comprising leading international arbitration counsel based across Asia, Australia and Europe, who also regularly sit as arbitrators and senior quantum experts:

Their short bios are set out below.
Vyapak represents clients in a wide-range of services with a special focus on cutting edge cross-border and complex litigations, investment treaty disputes and international commercial arbitrations. He is a leading attorney in the advisement and representation of clients involved in technology, healthcare and pharma, media, entertainment, franchising, oil and gas, insurance and financial services sectors for pragmatic and effective pre-litigation strategies, arbitrations and litigations before various forums including the Supreme Court, High Courts and Tribunals of India. He has represented and advised clients in investment treaty arbitrations and before international arbitration centres such as the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR- AAA) amongst others. He acts as an arbitrator and is also a trained mediator.
Vyapak is a member of the ROAP Steering Committee and was part of the faculty for the first ROAP Asia edition in 2021.
Sae Youn Kim is a senior member of the International Arbitration & Cross-Border Litigation Practice of Kim & Chang.
Ms. Kim practices primarily in the areas of international litigation and arbitration with an emphasis on commercial and international law.
Before joining Kim & Chang, she served as a judge at various Korean district courts, and practiced as a key member in major Korean law firms. Ms. Kim also sits as an arbitrator. Her expertise in international dispute resolution has been recognized by the variety of roles she holds and held in various institutions, including but not limited to a Commissioner of the Korea Trade Commission, a Vice-Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association, a Co-Chair of the Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, and a Court member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. She is regularly selected as a leading lawyer by publications such as Chambers Global, Who’s Who Legal, Legal 500, and Asialaw.
She has co-authored various publications on several aspects of Korean law, including commercial litigation, arbitration, investment arbitration, construction, and privilege. She also speaks regularly in conferences organized by the International Bar Association, Inter Pacific Bar Association, and various arbitral institutions across the world. Besides being regularly selected as leading lawyer, she was also awarded Commended Counsel by ASIAN-MENA COUNSEL in 2016 and Woman Lawyer of the Year, by ALB Korea Law Awards in 2018.
Ms. Kim received an LL.M. from Duke University Law School in 2007, and her LL.B. from Seoul National University College of Law in 1991. She graduated the Judicial Training and Research Institute by the Supreme Court of Korea in 1994. She speaks and practices in both Korean and English.
Shaun Pereira is counsel in the Singapore office, has advised and represented States, State-owned entities and multinational corporations in disputes subject to arbitration under the ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, and AAA-ICDR rules in proceedings across the energy, construction, and financial services sectors.
He is listed in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, in which clients describe him as “impressive”, “outstanding”, and “up and coming”. He teaches as Adjunct Faculty at the Singapore Management University and has published on international arbitration in leading journals, including the Journal of International Arbitration, the Lloyd’s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly, and the Civil Justice Quarterly.
Shaun previously served in a judicial capacity as a magistrate and assistant registrar in the High Court of Singapore and the Singapore International Commercial Court. Before that, he clerked for the Chief Justice and Justices of the Supreme Court of Singapore.
Vicky Zhao is currently a partner at JunHe LLP Beijing office. Before joining JunHe, Vicky had worked with a “magic circle” international law firm, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and other renowned Chinese law firms. During her time at SIAC, she administered more than 100 international commercial arbitrations.
Vicky is specialized in complex cross-border dispute resolution. She has represented clients in both domestic and international arbitrations under various arbitration rules, such as CIETAC, BAC, SIAC, ICC, HKIAC and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. She also represents clients in litigations and arbitration-related court proceedings before different levels of the Chinese courts. Her practice mainly focuses on corporate and commercial dispute matters, such as private equity investment, M&A, corporate governance, joint venture, shareholder disputes, D&O liabilities, finance and securities, etc.
Vicky has been recognised as “Up and Coming” lawyer in the field of arbitration by both Chambers and Partners Global and Greater China in 2023, a “Next Generation Partner” by the Legal 500 in 2020 - 2023, and a “Future Star” in International Arbitration by the Benchmark Litigation China in 2021 - 2023.
Abhileen has over a decade and a half of experience in representing and advising clients on commerical disputes.
Abhileen focuses on arbtirations and has advised and represented parties on both domestic and cross border disputes. He has represented parties before ad hoc as well as institutional arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, LMAA, SIAC and UNCITRAL Rules. He has acted for HNIs, and companies in various sectors such as banking and finance, commodities, construction, energy, infrastructure, logistics, mining, shipping, technology and telecom, on disputes arising out of commercial contracts, shareholder disputes, corporate insolvency, construction contracts, media rights contracts, etc.
Besides arbitrations, Abhileen has acted for clients in commercial and white collar crime litigation, and bankruptcy matters and has represented them before various judicial forums.
Daryl Chew is the managing partner of the firm’s Singapore office. He has an active portfolio of arbitrations involving a wide range of applicable laws and venues, arising from energy, construction, M&A, joint venture, and general commercial disputes.
He also serves as presiding arbitrator, co-arbitrator and sole arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc arbitration proceedings.
Chambers and The Legal 500 commend his “outstanding track record”, “superb written advocacy”, “valuable strategic input”, and recommend him for “consistently high-quality work”. Daryl serves as the Chairman of the Board of Maxwell Chambers, an integrated Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) complex in Singapore established to provide best of class facilities and services for the conduct of ADR activities. He also serves on various governmental and regional arbitration committees and lectures at several universities in Southeast Asia.
Jo is a partner at HFW and has over 20 years of experience in complex cross-border projects and disputes based in Sydney and London. Jo is experienced in all forms of dispute resolution, including mediation, expert determination, arbitration or litigation.
Jo's passion is international arbitration. She draws on extensive experience in commercial, construction and investment arbitrations under the ICC, ACICA, SIAC, LCIA AAA, UNCITRAL and ICSID arbitration rules in a diverse range of industries, including energy, resources and infrastructure, construction, telecommunications and information technology. Jo has acted for private parties and States in many investment treaty cases under the UNCITRAL and ICSID Arbitration Rules.
Jo is one of Australia's two members of the ICC Court of Arbitration and involved with ACICA, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and The Pledge Steering Committee.
Jo was part of the faculty for the first ROAP Asia edition in 2021.
Jonathan Ellis is a partner at HKA and is based in the Singapore office. He is a forensic accountant with nearly two decades of experience and specialises in both the quantification of damages and valuations, in particular in dispute contexts. He has worked on matters before the UK and Singapore High Courts as well as in ad hoc, SIAC, LCIA, ICC, HKIAC, UNCITRAL and ICSID arbitration forums. He has provided oral testimony on a dozen occasions, in both court and arbitration, and has been engaged as a tribunal appointed expert.
Jonathan has advised and supported clients in mergers and acquisitions transactions, corporate restructuring, financial reporting, and expert determination. He is experienced across multiple sectors including energy, power, pharmaceutical, mining, and manufacturing. His consulting experience also includes advising utility suppliers in the Middle East, in respect of both water and power.
Since 2017, Jonathan has been recognised among the leading arbitration expert witnesses worldwide by Who's Who Legal, where he has been classified as a “Global Elite Thought Leader” and a “National Leader” in the inaugural Southeast Asia Arbitration list.
Jonathan holds a master’s in accounting and management science and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Asia Pacific Institute of Experts. He is a member of the Association of International Energy Negotiators and the thought leadership group of the Singapore ICC Arbitration Group.
Aoi Inoue is a partner and the Head of the International Arbitration Practice at Anderson Mori & Tomotsune. He specializes in international arbitration and litigation. He represents clients in a wide range of business disputes, including joint venture, construction projects, licensing, distributorship, franchising, complex financial products, labor & employment and product liability. He has acted as counsel in a number of international arbitrations under various rules including the ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, AAA-ICDR, JCAA, CIETAC and UNCITRAL. He also serves as arbitrator and has been appointed to the panel of arbitrators of the JCAA, KCAB INTERNATIONAL and Japan Sports Arbitration Agency (JSAA). He currently serves as a managing director of the Japan Association of Arbitrators (JAA). He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC). He has been recognized as a leading arbitration lawyer in Chambers & Partners, Lexology Index Thought Leaders, The Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation and Best Lawyers.
Mr. Inoue received his LL.B. from the University of Tokyo, and holds an LL.M. from Columbia Law School. He is admitted to practice in Japan and New York. He worked for Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, a New York law firm as a visiting attorney (2010 to 2011) before he resumed his position at Anderson Mori & Tomotsune. He co-authored Law and Practice of International Commercial Arbitration (Maruzen-Yushodo, 2016).
David Kim is highly regarded for his extensive experience in assisting clients with a broad range of international arbitration matters.
Mr. Kim's experience in international arbitration matters includes, among other things, acting as legal counsel for many different clients in various arbitration cases before the ICC, SIAC, ICSID, HKIAC, KCAB, and LCIA, as well as in ad-hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules. He has represented multinational corporations, government entities, defense contractors, and high-profile individuals in numerous commercial disputes related to construction, shipping, military contracts, energy and natural resources, telecommunications, intellectual property, and investor-state matters. Prior to commencing his professional work in 2008 as an arbitration practitioner in Korea, Mr. Kim worked as a litigator in Canada.
Mr. Kim has also previously served as an adjunct professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea, and is a faculty member for the Delos Dispute Resolution ROAP Asia.
Mr. Kim has been recognised as a leading practitioner by Chambers and Partners Global and Chambers and Partners Asia-Pacific, which describes him as someone whose "advocacy is logical, persuasive and tempered", who "will go the extra mile to take care of his clients" and who is “the next-generation leader of the Korean arbitration world". David is also ranked in The Legal 500 and Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific as a "dispute resolution star” and was named as an "outstanding young partner" in Chambers and Partners Asia-Pacific (2016). In 2019, Mr. Kim was named a "next-generation leader in arbitration" by the KCAB, the first time the Board has awarded such a distinction.
David was part of the faculty for the first ROAP Asia edition in 2021.
Jonathan Lim is Partner at WilmerHale in London. He has represented governments and private corporations in commercial and investment arbitrations under all major arbitration rules sited across Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. He has also advised governments in Africa and Asia on a range of public international law issues and the drafting of arbitration legislation. In addition to his practice as counsel, Jonathan has a developing practice as an arbitrator, with appointments as sole and party-appointed arbitrator in proceedings seated in Europe and Asia. Jonathan also co-teaches a course on international arbitration at the National University of Singapore each January. He is listed in Who's Who Legal as a Future Leader in International Arbitration as one of ten “most highly regarded” individuals in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He has been described in directories by clients and peers as "a very smart all-round lawyer with a strong work ethic," “extremely capable and hardworking,” and “a sure bet as a future global leader.”He is also a Regional Editor of the Delos Guide to Arbitration Places (GAP).
Jonathan was part of the faculty for the first ROAP Asia edition in 2021.
Montek Mayal is a Partner at Osborne Partners, and Practice Head for Asia and the Middle East. Prior to joining Osborne Partners, Montek was a Senior Managing Director in FTI’s Economic and Financial Consulting segment. Montek founded and led FTI’s Economic Consulting and International Arbitration practice in India having joined in November 2009 as a Research Analyst.
Montek graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Colgate University. Montek has 15 years of experience in providing expert services in the assessment of quantum, financial, economic and valuation issues in contentious and non-contentious matters. He has a broad range of experience in issues including valuation of businesses and shares in relation to intellectual property disputes and valuations, shareholder and joint venture disputes, private equity investments, investment treaty claims, competition and anti-trust matters, calculation of lost profits and wasted costs, spectrum auctions and market, financial and economic analysis, research and study. He has developed and designed a number of quantitative models to value and forecast different aspects of businesses. His industry experience encompasses energy and power products, consumer and branded goods, real estate, hospitality, industrial gases, oil and gas, mining, petrochemicals, diversified and industrial materials, TMT, financial services, travel, and aviation, among others.
Montek has been appointed as an expert in domestic and international arbitrations and in competition matters, in India as well as globally. He has testified before tribunals on numerous occasions (50 times) since 2017 on claims ranging from USD 5 million to over USD 2.0 billion and has worked on over 100 expert matters.
He is a CFA and CVA Charterholder. Montek was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration and Finance Management (approved by the Government of India) for his work and contributions to the fields of corporate finance, economics and business .He current holds or has held various positions at various institutions, including: South Asia representative for Young ICCA, Vice Chairman of the Society of Construction Law in India, Member, Steering Committee, Young MCIA, Co-Chair, Society of Construction Law’s Young Leaders Group (India), visiting faculty at various institutions and universities (including ICAI), and Member, Founding working group, Indian Association of Litigation Finance. He previously served on the board of a venture with Intel Capital in the field of robotic surgeries in India and as the interim CEO for a major travel services company.
Montek was recognised as a Global Elite Thought Leader in Who’s Who Legal’s Arbitration Review (Expert Witnesses) for 2021 to 2024. Montek has been one of less than 30 practitioners globally who have been featured in this listing in receipt of the highest number of nominations from peers, corporate counsel, and other market sources. Montek has also been identified by The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration as one of the leading global expert witnesses (arbitration and commercial litigation) from 2017 to 2024. The surveys have described him as “a standout name in the Indian market”; “one of the best valuation experts in the country” whose “reports are of a high standard, succinct and easy to read and digest”; “I was very impressed with the way he handled his cross-examination"; “"He is incredibly articulate and eloquent when presenting to the Tribunal"; and "Montek has the ability to understand complex issues and dissecting them into simple terms”.”
He was further listed as a Thought Leader – Expert Witness in Who’s Who Legal’s inaugural list (2019) and all subsequent lists in this category for India. Montek was labelled as the “go-to” expert for Indian matters. Montek was also listed in the Who’s Who Legal “Consulting Experts Guide”, 2016 to 2023, in the field of “Quantum of Damages”.
Shruti is a Partner with the Firm's Dispute Resolution Practice. She specialises in domestic and international arbitrations as well as commercial litigations.
Shruti regularly represents and advices clients, both private and state entities, in commercial arbitrations and litigations. She has acted for Indian and foreign parties, in arbitrations seated in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Paris, Dubai and London conducted under the auspice of institutions such as International Chamber of Commerce, London Chamber of International Arbitration, Singapore International Arbitration Centre, International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes and in ad-hoc proceedings. She also acts for clients before various forums including the Supreme Court of India, High Courts of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad besides others.
Her area of focus is the construction and infrastructure industry, power sector including oil and gas, manufacturing sector, hospitality industry etc. She has worked on disputes arising from concession agreements, joint venture agreements, construction agreements, hotel management agreements, share purchase agreements, supply and distributors agreements, which have arisen under the laws of India, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, United Kingdom and involved aspects of international law.
Dr Yunsoo Shin is a partner at Peter & Kim and a highly experienced specialist in international commercial disputes. She has been elected as a member of the ICC Court for the 2024–2027 term and has also joined the esteemed Task Force for the IBA Guidelines on Party Representation in International Arbitration. Dr Shin is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, a Specialist Mediator at the Singapore International Mediation Centre, and one of the youngest Korean arbitrators active in the ICC International Court of Arbitration. She has acted as an international arbitrator at SIAC,HKIAC, ACICA, and KCAB, and as counsel in various international arbitration cases conducted under the rules of the ICC, SIAC, LCIA, HKIAC, and KCAB.
Her expertise covers both the common law and civil law traditions and a broad range of business transactions and commercial disputes involving M&As, general contract law, share purchase and asset purchase agreements, distribution agreements, construction, automobile manufacturing, OEM contracts, and license agreements, among various other subject matters. In particular, she is one of the most experienced young lawyers in Korea who has handled many multi-billion-dollar post-M&A disputes involving Korean chaebols.
The Global Arbitration Review and Who’s Who Legal describe Dr Shin as a “top-notch advocate that will be one to watch in the coming years at the top of the Korean market” who possesses a “deep understanding of cross-border transactions, which makes her expertise sought after in complex post-M&A disputes.” She received the “Lawyer of the Year” in the best Korean arbitration practitioner category in 2024 by the Legal Times, “Woman Lawyer of the Year” in Korea award by Asian Legal Business (Thomson Reuters) in 2023, and has been nominated as a “Rising Star” under 45, a “Leading Lawyer” in the field of international arbitration in Korea by the Legal Times since 2021.
Shin is dual licensed in the New York Bar and the Korean Bar, with in-depth knowledge and expertise in M&A disputes, finance, and corporate valuation. She is a graduate of Seoul National University (B.S., LL.B.), the Wharton School (MBA, in finance and business analytics), and Harvard Law School, where she earned her doctoral degree (SJD, in corporate governance and finance). Prior to joining Peter & Kim, Dr Shin practiced law at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC for 10 years, served as a fellow at Harvard Law School Program on Corporate Governance, and published journal articles on corporate governance and shareholder disputes in Delaware and Korea.
Owain has over 30 years’ experience in a wide range of forensic accounting projects. His recent experience includes expert witness related forensic accounting services (including preparation of expert reports and/or giving oral testimony) in the Australian Federal Court, the Supreme Court and County Court of Victoria, the High Court of Singapore, the Supreme Court of Vanuatu and given evidence in arbitrations in Australia, Hong Kong and USA.
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, Mr Stone spent more than 15 years as a Partner in KordaMentha, including leading the Forensics practice for almost a decade. Previously he was the Oceania Head of Fraud Investigation and Dispute Services for Ernst & Young. Owain’s experience includes a number of years audit experience as well as working on a range of due diligence and insolvency engagements.
His expertise includes disputes related to energy, infrastructure, joint ventures, M&A, private equity, TMT, digital assets and real estate in Asia and internationally.
Edward has acted on arbitrations conducted under the auspices of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), as well as ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL arbitration rules and Emergency Arbitrator proceedings. He also sits as an arbitrator. Edward is featured in the Legal 500 Powerlist and Who’s Who Legal for international arbitration.
Edward represents parties in general commercial litigation and arbitration-related court proceedings, including arbitrator challenges and enforcement matters, as well as expert determination, mediation and dispute review board procedures.
Naresh is an independent counsel who practices in the Supreme Court of India, the Bombay and Delhi High Courts and regularly appears across various other courts in India. He is a qualified lawyer with the additional attribute of being a Solicitor in England and Wales.
Naresh has over 25 years of experience in litigation, international arbitration, and mediation; particularly in Energy and large infrastructure project arbitrations, post M&A arbitrations, corporate litigation, commercial disputes, regulatory and tax disputes, and white-collar crimes.
Naresh’s experience in tax disputes includes representing on Central Excise, Customs, Service Tax VAT, and GST matters.
He routinely advises and represents clients on varied financial and regulatory issues, including bankruptcy, foreign trade policy, environmental, foreign exchange management and electricity matters.
He has successfully represented clients in matters pertaining to economic offences before diverse Tribunals and Courts in India.
Over the years, he has handled several international and domestic arbitration matters as counsel under the Rules of ICC, LCIA, SIAC, MCIA, UNCITRAL and Ad-Hoc proceedings for both domestic as well as multinational clients.
David Thornes is a Partner with Accuracy and has been based since 2016 in the Singapore office, which he established.
He has extensive experience in providing advice and support to clients in various situations, including disputes, crisis and transactions.
Overall, David has gained more than 18 years of experience in expert assignments, transaction support and forensics, out of which more than 16 years with Accuracy.
He is regularly appointed as quantum expert in disputes, in particular on matters involving the quantification of loss of profits and the valuation of shares. David has delivered oral testimonies before arbitration Tribunals (ICC, SIAC) and in Court.
David benefits from an engineering background and graduated in 2002 from Ecole Centrale Paris, one of the leading French engineering schools.
Teck Wee Tiong is a partner in the Commercial & Corporate Disputes Practice and International Arbitration Practice at WongPartnership LLP. His main areas of practice are in multi-jurisdictional, complex, high value, commercial and corporate disputes. Teck Wee represents and acts for global private, public, and state-owned clients in the Singapore Courts and in international arbitrations under the rules of major arbitral institutions and in ad-hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL Rules. Teck Wee also has an active practice in investment-related disputes and investment treaty arbitrations.
Teck Wee has represented and acted for clients in a variety of disputes across a range of industries including general contractual disputes, shareholders' and joint venture disputes, company fraud and mismanagement and minority oppression claims, and M&A, private equity, banking and finance, commodities trading, energy, and property and infrastructure disputes. Teck Wee also regularly appears before the Singapore Courts in the enforcement of arbitral awards, to set aside and/or challenge arbitral awards, obtain interim and injunctive reliefs, and in other arbitration-related matters.
Teck Wee is fluent in Chinese and is experienced in acting for Chinese-speaking and Chinese clients, as well as in international arbitration matters where Mandarin is the language of the arbitration.
Teck Wee is also the Co-Head of the Sustainability & Responsible Business Practice at WongPartnership LLP. In this capacity Teck Wee advises clients on a range of ESG and sustainability-related issues such as greenwashing, ESG and climate-related litigation and disputes, directors’ duties and liabilities, and carbon credits and carbon trading.
Teck Wee was part of the faculty for the first ROAP Asia edition in 2021.
