SUMMARY:Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OCAC) today announced details of the upcoming Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days 2026 (MAMD) conference, scheduled to take place in December. The event is designed to strengthen Muscat’s presence and engagement with the international arbitration and dispute-resolution community.\nIn this context, MAMD and OCAC’s involvement support Oman Vision 2040 objectives, in partnership with the Oman Investment Authority, the Supreme Judicial Council and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.\nMAMD will take place from 7 to 9 December 2026 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat.\nAt today’s press conference, held at the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs Hall in Muscat, Dr Abdullah bin Nasser Al Mandhari, Chief Executive Officer of the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OCAC), announced MAMD’s programme and vision. The conference will bring together leading arbitrators, legal practitioners, in-house counsel, dispute-resolution institutions and senior decision-makers from Oman, the region and international markets.\nOCAC oversees a number of arbitration cases each year, as domestic, regional and international businesses increasingly turn to Oman as a jurisdiction in which to resolve their commercial disputes. These businesses operate mainly in the construction and banking and finance sectors.\nThe press conference also saw the signing of five memoranda of understanding between OCAC and the Oman Society of Engineers, Decree, the national travel operator Visit Oman, the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre and the International Training Partner Foundation. The agreements aim to expand the Centre’s partnerships and strengthen cooperation with relevant institutions and organisations.\nThe OCAC also announced details of Muscat Arbitration Competition 2026, an OCAC initiative organised in partnership with Decree to develop practical advocacy and arbitration skills among the next generation of legal professionals. The announcement included details of the competition’s first training workshop, which will provide practical guidance and support participants’ preparation.\nThe competition is one of OCAC’s initiatives and is open to law students at colleges across Oman. Taking part in moot court proceedings gives students the opportunity to gain practical experience in commercial arbitration and develop their legal research, written-submission and oral-advocacy skills.\nTogether, these initiatives reflect OCAC’s commitment to strengthening Oman’s dispute-resolution system, building international partnerships and creating opportunities for knowledge exchange between practitioners and institutions in Oman and the global arbitration community. They also contribute to strengthening Oman’s position internationally as it pursues the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.\nDr Khalid Al Saidi, Chairman of the MAMD Committee, said:\n“Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days is an initiative organised by the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre that brings together the dispute-resolution community from Oman, the region and around the world. As commercial relationships become increasingly international and complex, effective dispute resolution is more important than ever.\n“Our ambitions extend beyond organising an annual conference. We aim to establish Muscat as a geographic and commercial hub for the international dispute-resolution community, a meeting point where perspectives and legal traditions converge, new ideas are explored and lasting professional relationships are built.”\nDr Abdullah Al Mandhari, Chief Executive Officer of the OCAC, said:\n“Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days will provide an important platform for dialogue, cooperation and knowledge exchange through a comprehensive programme. We are pleased to host our colleagues and friends of the Centre, alongside local, regional and international companies, this December.\n“The conference will also feature three key accompanying events and meetings: the Arab Lawyers Forum; a meeting of judges of the Arab Investment Court of the League of Arab States; and a training programme for judges of the Investment and Commerce Court.\n“These events will strengthen the conference’s role as a regional platform for legal dialogue, knowledge exchange, professional development and international cooperation.”\nFor further information about Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days, including the programme, speakers and participation details, and the Muscat Arbitration Competition, visit www.mamd.om. The website also includes details of sponsorship packages, including opportunities to sponsor the conference and its specialist panel discussions.\nAbout:\nThe Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OCAC) was established under Royal Decree No. 26/2018 and has legal personality and administrative and financial autonomy. Guided by Oman Vision 2040 and with the aim of encouraging new investment in the Sultanate, the Centre plays a key role in providing arbitration, mediation and other alternative dispute-resolution services and administering local, regional and international disputes.\nMuscat Arbitration & Mediation Days is a leading platform for exploring the latest developments and emerging trends in commercial dispute resolution. The event brings together local and international experts, arbitrators and legal practitioners to exchange forward-looking insights, strengthen collaboration and share advanced legal expertise.\nOn the first day of MAMD 2026, the conference will examine the development of institutional arbitration in regional centres and global financial centres, as well as the impact of economic sanctions on arbitration and mediation practice. International speakers and experts specialising in arbitration, mediation and alternative dispute resolution will address these topics.\nThe second day will focus on avoiding and resolving disputes arising from major government contracts, followed by mediation as an effective means of dispute resolution. The conference will then examine the use of artificial intelligence in alternative dispute-resolution practices, before turning to the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and the role of investment and commercial courts in resolving disputes. These topics will be addressed by international speakers and experts specialising in arbitration, mediation and alternative dispute resolution.\nThe press conference concluded with an introductory presentation and the first training workshop for Muscat Arbitration Competition 2026. Abdulrahman Al Farsi, a representative of Decree, the competition’s organising partner in cooperation with the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre, delivered both. The workshop prepared participants for the final rounds, which will take place during Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days in December.\nThe second edition of Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days follows the inaugural event, held in December 2025, which achieved considerable success both locally and internationally.\nToday’s Press Conference Agenda:\n28 September 2026 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs Hall\nKey items unveiled:\n\nDetails of Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days\nSigning of cooperation agreements\nDetails of Muscat Arbitration Competition 2026 and the first training workshop\n\nMuscat Arbitration Competition 2026\nMuscat Arbitration Competition 2026 is an inter-university moot court competition in commercial arbitration and one of OCAC’s initiatives, organised in partnership with Decree for law students at Omani universities and colleges. The competition has two parallel language tracks, Arabic and English, and will culminate in a final round held during Muscat Arbitration & Mediation Days 2026 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.\nThe competition will feature eight teams in each language track. Each team will present arguments on behalf of both parties in an arbitration dispute before panels comprising arbitrators, judges and specialist practitioners, giving students the opportunity to simulate commercial arbitration proceedings.\nThe competition gives students the opportunity to argue a realistic commercial arbitration dispute governed by the OCAC Arbitration Rules and Omani law before tribunals comprising practising arbitrators, lawyers, academics and members of the judiciary. By preparing written memorials and delivering oral pleadings, participants develop the legal-research, drafting and advocacy skills that form the foundation of work in arbitration, while gaining direct exposure to the arbitration community in Oman and the region.\nFurther information about the Muscat Arbitration Competition is available here.
